5 Steps To Learning To Play The Piano
Saturday, December 3rd, 2011The essentials of piano playing can be broken down into 5 straightforward steps. Follow these steps and you’ll be well on the way to being talented on the keyboards and will definitely be in a position to tackle more advanced lessons on learn piano online.
Step 1 – Find Out Where The Notes Are
It might seem a little overwhelming when you first sit at the keyboards and see all 88 black and white keys before you. Conveniently you'll only have to master 12 of these as they are in repeating patterns of twelve notes. Each group of 12 notes is one octave. If you can manage to learn all of the notes of one octave then you have basically learned all of the notes as they're all repeated up and down the piano.
Step 2 -Play Some Tunes
As soon as you have learned where all the notes are you can start to play some straightforward tunes or melodies. It's now that you're going to begin to link the notes on the keyboard with the written notes if you are learning how to read music.
Step 3 – Play With The Other Hand
You'll have probably been playing your simple tunes with your right hand. You want to exercise both hands so that they are pretty much as pliant as each other. Play your small tunes with the the other hand also.
Step 4 – Learn Some Straightforward Chords
You can now play some basic melodies you could begin to learn some easy chords. Plain 3 note chords are simple as all of them follow a similar basic pattern. Play a note, miss a note, play a note miss a note and play a note. This can give you a straightforward chord or triad in root position. You can teach yourself 3 or four of these and have the ability to play a great number of popular tunes and songs.
Step 5 – Bringing It All Together
The ultimate step is to start to unite your hands and use them both at the same time. A simple bass line in the left hand with chords in the right hand is one way of playing. Or you could play the chords in the left hand and the melody in your right. What ever way you should now have reached a basic level of piano playing and be ready for using more advanced intermediate material.
