As illustrated, every artist had their own style then. Music companies weren’t always trying to fine a clone of whoever had the last hit record.

Does anyone remember a slow top 40 song from KDIA or KSOL in SF back in 1973 or 1974 that had a sitar effect on the guitar and the chorus went something like a Staple Singers song and was like “There’s a river in the valley, that runs through the hearts of everyone…”

#13 is Billy Preston; Billy Paul sang “Me & Mrs. Jones”. He’s missing from this list too. #21 is Carl Douglas, if I’m not mistaken. Carl Carlton sang “Everlasting Love” & “Bad Mama Jamma”. After the Sylvers, it should’ve been The Miracles with “Love Machine”, but I think they had issues with the record label and someone else re-recorded the song in order for it to be on YouTube. “Fire” was the jam by the Pointer Sisters.

That was when their was REAL music and you’re right – Barry is missing, as well as Issac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, Ike & Tina, but that’s ok; you got some good tunes and the best part – I can sing ALL the words and not be embarrassed or have to censor ANYTHING!!! So many on here are gone, but not forgotten.
