2009 Dallas Guitar festival closing number – Johnny Hiland – Call Me the Breeze

Author: The final song. JHB had the honor of closing the Festival this year with this crunchin’ cover of the JJ Cale classic. The band really cooks on this one. This performance provides an illustration of what one really great guitarist and technique can accomplish vs. three average ones……sometimes less is more. Uh oh…………..here comes the lame Skynyrd comments……….no offense intended, I’m just making an observation and this is a great interpretation regardless.

It’s JJ cales song he cant interpretate it any way he wants, he is an awesome guitar player and is well known for his diversitity, Skynyrd’s version is their version and shouldnt be drawing comparisions.

But a bunch of “fretboard gymnastics” don’t make him a better player than those you so offhandedly malign. Could he fit in with two others pickers and blend seamlessly in and out of of solos the way Ed, Allen & Gary did? I think not. People who say Skynyrd’s music was “simple” to play are plain ignorant musically speaking. Try to re-create the subtleties of those tunes if you can. (you can’t)

Hey JRGUITAR, First off, this guy would never have even performed this tune if it weren’t for Skynyrd’s version … It sounds a lot more like them than it does JJ Cales .. Just saying. He’s a good palyer, don’t get me wrong.
