Accordions Are Enjoying a Resurgence in Popularity

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Although the mainstream music world has usually relegated accordions to second-category standing, squeezeboxes are once again coming back into their own. Making appearances in productions starting from those of Cirque du Soleil to albums from top name rock stars, the accordion’s unique sound is obtaining some well-deserved attention.

Though most people can conjure up a mental picture of an accordian, many do not notice that there are many completely different types of accordions, developed over the years for specific musical genres. As free reed instruments, the gap and closing of an accordion’s bellows (or squeezebox) causes the air to flow over the reeds, that makes the sound. An accordion conjointly has buttons, or each buttons and a keyboard. These serve to direct the airflow to certain reeds and not others, thereby controlling the tones played.

Some accordions have one row of buttons; some have two rows of buttons; and still others have 3 rows. Accordions with one row of buttons include the Hohner Concertina and also the Hohner Ariette. The latter is often used for playing Cajun, Quebecois, Zydeco, and Irish folks music. These buttons sometimes play the diatonic scale, with each button able to play 2 notes: one when the bellows is squeezed in and another when it’s unfold apart. An accordian with one row of buttons is usually tuned for the sort of music being played. For instance, bound reeds could be crammed in order to supply the sounds usually associated with Cajun music. The Hohner Ariette, as an example, has ten treble buttons, two bass buttons, four sets of treble reeds, and three sets of bass reeds.

A two-row button accordion sometimes has 21 treble buttons, eight bass/chord buttons, and two sets of treble reeds. Such an accordian is offered in key mixtures like GC, AD, CF, and DG. A three-row button accordion, like the Hohner Corona, has 31 treble buttons and two sets of treble reeds. The third row of keys means that {that the} key combos differ from those of a 2-button accordion, and might be, for example, GCF, FBbEb, EAD, and ADG.

A piano accordion is absolutely chromatic instrument with a varying range of piano keys, depending on the scale of the instrument. From the gold commonplace Gola piano accordion to the Hohnica piano accordion for the budget minded, there actually is a piano accordion for everyone.

One among the foremost stunning aspects of accordions is that they can’t be fully mass-made and assembled. Like different fine musical instruments, the handmade components (in the case of accordions, most notably the reeds) are what give the instrument its distinctive sound.

There is no doubt {that the} accordian has traveled way from its stereotypical uses as an instrument for polkas. From Cajun and Zydeco to Klezmer and Classical music, from Lawrence Welk to Sheryl Crow, accordions are here to stay.

A Study In Banjo Lessons

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Ah, I remember the great recent days after I had my first banjo lesson. Actually, it wasn’t precisely my initial lesson. I had been using the web to improve my “talent” for a while, and I used to be slightly conceited since I assumed I had some plan concerning what I was doing. I watched videos of a real knowledgeable taking part in the banjo while the tabs were on the market as well. I learned a few songs and techniques that sounded interesting, but that was concerning the extent of my knowledge.

Once I had my initial real lesson, it broke down all those illusions I had of being a tight player. I tried to indicate off, however as his deep eyes met mine I missed a chord. It was my first time to ever play any instrument in front of anyone, and I didn’t assume I might get nervous. Once all, I’ve always been a gifted public speaker. The sole one in the room was my teacher, and I was having a terrible time.

I’m having a exhausting time seeing my future in banjo playing, particularly since I can’t even whack up the ginger to play something in front of my very own teacher. He’s a nice guy, and he will play the banjo like no other. He’s already taught me many exercise I can use for my next lesson. It’s also a nice experience just to watch him play, since his skill so much outweighs mine. I just hope I can sound at least slightly additional decent the following time I’ve got a lesson.

But if I continuously freeze up after I attempt to play at my lessons, I’m worried that my instructor can never be in a position to offer me the assistance I really need. It’s impossible to get feedback and constructive criticism if everything I play is absolute garbage. I suppose I can start recording my lone practice and playing it back for him. Hopefully I won’t freeze up simply knowing that he can be taking note of it soon…

How To Learn To Play Blues Guitar

Friday, January 8th, 2010

What Is The Blues?

It is not that easy to pull out a definition of blues. You can tell that Robert Jhonsons’ Rambling on My Mind or B.B. King’s Everyday I Have the Blues is definitely blues, but what about van Halen, Al Di Meola or Pavarotti’s songs?

Of course, you might outline the blues by the call-response structure, the dominant 7th chords, the shuffle rhythm, the I-IV-V progression and stuff like these, but the most complete definition is one that Eric Clapton himself gave to blues music in an interview in 1998 :

My definition of Blues is that it’s a musical form which is very disciplined and structured coupled with a state of mind, and you can have either of those things but it’s the two together that make it what it is. And you need to be a student for one, and a human being for the other, but those things alone don’t do it. (Eric Clapton, 1998)

The Blues History

There are many books on the history of blues. It was born in the 20th century’s Mississippi Delta in the U.S., short after the Civil War. This music style was played by slaves and white people referred to it as sorrow songs, plantation songs or workaday songs. The term blues was used for the first time around 1925.

It is believed that the band leader William Christopher Handy was the one to write the first blues songs in 1909, which was later printed and documented. The song was initially called Memphis Blues and got the name of Mister Crump later. He got his inspiration from a blues song he heard in the Mississippi railway station six years earlier. W.C. Handy wrote other songs too, such as Beale Street Blues or St. Louis Blues and nowadays there’s a blues award named after him – the W.C. Handy Award.

Best Tips For Play Guitar Songs

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Before you need to even try to play the guitar songs, guarantee your guitar is correctly tuned. If your guitar isn’t correctly tuned before you play, the tune you try to play won’t sound right in any way. Another talent that you’re going to have to understand how to do before you can play the guitar songs is to find out how to read guitar tabs.

To play guitar songs, the key is to not just know how to read guitar tabs but to train your ear when you hear a song too.  The first step is to listen to the songs that you want to play on your guitar.  If you are still a novice then it is suggested that you try to stick with simple songs at first.  The best kinds of songs are ones that use three simple chords.

While listening to the track, you would like to try and focus on the rhythm and the timing of the chords and strums being played on the guitar. After you hear the tune a couple of times, then you need to attempt to follow with the track by reading the guitar tab, while it is playing. You must do this a couple of times too making psychological note of the rhythm and timing.

After you have listened to the track a number of times and followed along on the guitar tab, you should then pick up your own guitar. As the track is playing strum with the tune. Naturally, you do not want to play your guitar too loudly ; you would like to be in a position to still hear the track you try to mimic.

Finally, when you get the timing and the strumming style, start playing the tracks on your own, this time without the music. In case you cannot remember, you can hear the tune again then try playing it on your own. Practice playing a song on your guitar one at a time. You need to master one song before you go to another. Play the tune repeatedly again till you’re able to sing the track while you play your guitar.

If you have got a video recorder you will even need to record yourself playing. When you’re finished playing, you can watch the video. This could help you to fix any mistakes you could be making regarding proper system.

Learning to play guitar songs isn’t as hard as you think it is. You just need to have the passion to learn.  You must also have a great deal of patience.  If you mess up a lot, don’t worry about it.  That’s natural.  If you keep making a mistake then put the guitar down for a while and go do something else then come back.  When you are frustrated, you are only going to keep making mistakes.

Above is all I want to share with you about Best Guitar Lessons for Dummies. But for more information, I would strongly recommend you to go to Best Guitar Lessons.

Drums from around the World

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

First your foot starts to tap, then your hands beat a staccato rhythm on your lap and, before you know it, you’re bopping along to the beat. We’ve all experienced the energy in a night club and felt our pulses quicken to the ‘doof doof doof’ of a bass drum. It’s undeniable: beating the drum is energising and exhilarating.

Drumming circles – groups of people sit in a circle playing improvised beats on percussion instruments – are gaining popularity in social, business and therapeutic settings.

Drumming circles are by no means a modern invention. Many cultures have used drumming to energise and aid concentration. Because no musical experience is necessary drumming circles are accessible and are great team building exercises in any context.

Drums from Around the World

Drums come in all shapes and sizes. The instruments used in drumming circles are often of Middle Eastern or African origin.

The dumbek, for example, is of Middle Eastern origin. The player holds the drum under the left arm and taps out the beat with the fingers of both hands. Originally, dumbeks were carved of wood, but now you’ll find metal and ceramic drumbeks too.

Djembe drums are also a popular choice. Originating in Western Africa, the djembe was (and sometimes still is) used in healing ceremonies and rites of passage.

Probably the most well known small handheld drum is the tambourine. Most of us have played a tambourine at some time – they’re small, fun, and virtually fool proof. The tambourine, in one form or another, shows up in the history of many different cultures and has as many names: Gaval, Tamburello, Riq and many more.

Drums such as the drumbek and djembe often feature in world and new age music. Frank Natale, aka Professor Trance and one of the most inspirational figures in the new age movement, promoted drumming and dance – and tribal worldbeat from different cultures – as a way to find your inner balance and place in the world. Frank Natale passed on in 2002.

Drumming and Team Building

So why is drumming such a great team building exercise? There are several reasons, the most obvious being that drumming reduces stress. It puts people in a relaxed social circle and lets them pound out their frustrations on a drum. It’s easy and fun, and the environment is friendly and non-judgemental.

Drumming is also great for creativity. It encourages use of the right side of the brain – the creative side – which, combined with the release of tension, frees up the mind and helps the ideas start to flow again. It also creates enthusiasm and “nothing great in life is achieved without enthusiasm.”

Another reason why drumming is so great for team building and team bonding is that it encourages cooperation and illustrates that every member in the team is equally important. When everybody plays their part the result is harmonious and cohesive.

So there you have it: drumming is healthy! It encourages team work and promotes creativity. If you aren’t so sure about the truth of that, grab an old plastic bucket and turn it on it’s head, then tap away for a while – it won’t take you long to find the beat!

And if you simply want to dance to great drum music check out Fire Drums by Music Mosaic.

One last admonishment: Kids, this is not an excuse for waking up the neighbours!

Learn How To Play Guitar For Beginners Online

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Before actually learning how to play guitar you should know a few very important things. The main thing you should only keep in mind is that a song is made from notes.

If you want to play the notes correctly then you should familiarize yourself with the chords. To be more precise, the chords are a series of notes played in unison.

If the guitar player knows how to play them then the result will be very melodic.

If you´re a beginner the first thing you will learn will be to know the chords. You can´t play correctly if you don´t know the chords. The G, C, D and A are the easiest chords on the guitar.

Easy means that you won´t have to use many fingers to play them, just three fingers will do the trick.

When you push down on the strings at the fret on the guitar neck it´s called playing chords. While pushing down the strings you should strum the strings before the sound hole and there you have it: you´re playing the guitar.

Many professionals recommend that you should use an acoustic guitar in order to learn how to play. When you learn the basics you can start using an electric guitar.

If you´re looking for some tips in regard to chords then you should read on. You shouldn´t push the strings down too hard.

Everything stays in the balance and in time you´ll see how this works. The chord won´t sound perfect when you press down too hard or too soft.

Also, you might want to level down the wrist of the left hand in order to loosen the strain. If you ignore this step your guitar will make buzzing sounds instead of great tunes.

Not to mention that in time you´ll experience cramping and pain in your hand. Technique is the key to guitar playing!

At first it´s recommended that you play only songs with less chord movements. When you can play correctly all these easy songs you can start playing blindfolded.

Take a good look at any professional player and you´ll see that they don´t look at the fret while playing except for the times when they must play a complex chord.

It´s very important that you memorize the hand movements of all the guitar chords. The fingers and the hand must touch very the guitar very naturally and if you practice day by day that shouldn´t be a problem.

If you want to learn how to play the guitar online, i highly recommend the Jamorama guitar learning course. Check out my in depth Jamorama review for more details. Visit my site for other online guitar courses.
